Reflection of 2015 Part 3

On the 1st of August 2015, I started working as a Customer Care Officer in a new company, *MyPhysio, which is a Physiotherapy centre. It is a totally different set-up compared to my previous job. Before this, I worked at a telecommunication company in customer service which requires me to receive calls regarding customers’ inquiries.  Now, my responsibility is mainly administration. I am required to arrange patients' appointments, I will have to receive incoming calls and look into administrative matters. The most important thing is that I need to talk to client face to face. Initially, it was difficult for me because it requires me to speak in English, a language that I seldom use in my daily life. I will become less confident if I need to speak in English and it is more challenging when I need to speak in English face to face with clients. After almost 5 months working here, I have grown more confident to converse in English.

A memorable day in my work experience at MyPhysio was a community event, Physio Day. My initial thought to this event was I would not be able to have my usual rest on a Sunday as the Physio Day was on a Sunday to cater to the needs of the community. However on that day, when we finished the event at 2pm I felt a great sense of satisfaction. It was worth seeing people that came feeling happy, satisfied and enjoying the activities of that day. On that day, I was in charge of the registration, and measuring the blood pressure and heart rate for everyone that came. It was a day filled with new experiences for me.

MyPhysio also has personal development training for us through leadership training classes. The class is held twice a month. The training focuses on developing my Thinking skill. This has helped me to make better decisions at work and in my life.

I have also met and made new friends in this new company. They are all therapists who are from different races and religions but they are nice and helpful to me. My boss is a dedicated and a patient person. She is not the person that will scold her staff directly. It happened to me once when I made a mistake in arranging appointments for the patients. Fortunately, the slot is not redundant. My boss talked to me and asked me to explain the situation. Instead of scolding me, she gave me a solution so that I will know how to handle the situation if it happens in future.

Lastly, I had many new experiences after working in this new company. I learnt how to speak to strangers, and be patient and friendly to clients. I have also gained knowledge on what physiotherapy is all about. I hope I can grow in my career and continue to be able to contribute to the client care and physiotherapy team of MyPhysio in 2016.

Love,
Nurul Ain

2015 has come to an end. This is my third year journeying with *MyPhysio. It has been a very interesting and pleasant journey with MyPhysio this year.  This year, thanks to to MyPhysio , I was given the opportunity to attend the World Conference Physical Therapy (WCPT) 2015 at Singapore, May 2015. This is my first time attending WCPT and it has been a great experience and exposure during the conference. During the conference, I  got to meet and share experiences with other physiotherapists from other countries. I hope to get this opportunity again in the future.

As we know, MyPhysio’s treatment strategies is strongly influenced by the Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization(DNS) approach and we would like to get other physiotherapist in Malaysia to know and learn more about the effectiveness of DNS. We started our year 2015 with a one day course which introduced us to an understanding of a Developmental Kinesiology Approach. This was my first time attending such a course. We learnt how to consider exercises in developmental baby positions. This course was aimed to prepare us for the future DNS courses that MyPhysio would be organizing. Although it is not my first exposure to DNS, but there is always something new to learn and improve my clinical skills.

In October, we successfully organized the DNS A and DNS Foot skill course at Melia Hotel for 5 days. I attended the DNS A course with other colleagues. After the course, I found that I was able to understand more about the principles of DNS and became more confident in applying this approach during treatment sessions.  It made me want to know more and improve more both in knowledge and skill.

Besides improving ourselves in clinical practice, MyPhysio also gives us opportunities to improve our leadership skills. We have discussion classes on the topic ‘Thinking For a Change’ since July 2015. There are 11 thinking skills that we can learn, practice and use to improve and change ourselves to be a better person as a physiotherapist and human being respectively.

Thank you to the MyPhysio team for this memorable and meaningful year. I hope for an amazing journey next year. Bye-bye 2015. Welcome 2016. Happy new year to all. I Hope that it will be an exciting year ahead for all.

Love,
Nurul Azwa

Events

Caregiver Education Training 2015:

MyPhysio FiCoMo Specialist Centre conducted the FiCoMo Caregiver Education Training (Level 1) on the 9th of December 2015 successfully. The aim of this training was to educate nurses and caregivers on basic proper movement care in transferring & helping patient for daily activities and to provide hands-on practical demonstration for carers to apply proper movement care in daily activities.

Nurses and family care givers attended the training. It was very encouraging to have participants come from as far as Melaka for this 1 day community service training event. The training started around 9.30am with a brief explanation of the FiCoMo concept by Ms. Lim Yi Lin (consultant physiotherapy at MyPhysio FiCoMo). FiCoMo stands for “Five Cores for Movement”, meaning we focus on 5 major cores of our body to be strong in a stabilization function in order to achieve the optimal network of system to move healthily.

After the short session with Ms.Lim, I started our training. We did a lot of demonstration and practical session practicing with each other on transfer techniques , proper handling skills and proper movement care principles for both patient & care giver. We adjusted and modified the techniques according to the patient’s need & environment based on the FiCoMo concept.  At the end of the training, there was practical examination for the nurses. They did their best during practical examination. The training ended around 3.30pm.

On a personal note, this was my first time conducting a full day training. Although a little nervous throughout the training, I was very happy and excited in having the opportunity to share my knowledge and help others. I also received new information and input from the participants’ feedback that was very useful and beneficial for me. This training also increased my confidence in my communication with others. All the participants are very committed to learn the proper movement care. They asked a lot of questions and they really wanted to do their best in taking care of their patients/family member. They were all very friendly and that helped us all enjoy the session while learning together.

We will be conducting another course soon this year. I hope that these free FiCoMo community service programme will benefit more people in future.

Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization Courses 2016

I have good news for all of you.
In line with my company's vision to Raise the Level of Physiotherapists, I am constantly raising funds for sponsorship for many of the courses we have affliation with.

MyPhysio FiCoMo Specialist Centre has been committed in using DNS and empowering others in learning the DNS. With our commitment to Raise the level of Physiotherapists to Impact our Society and with the understanding of DNS, we are happy to inform you that we have managed to raise a sufficient amount of sponsorship fund this year to give a 50% goodwill sponsorship to 20 participants of the DNS Women's Health Skill Course.

I have been working in the area of Women's Health(WH). I personally have experienced a great desire to learn and explore more Functional approach concepts to help my patients but found a significant gap in training offered in this specialty. Hence I am thankful and very happy that my hard work to bring this opportunity to all of us specialising/interested in WH has materialised finally after 2 years!

The sponsorship by MyPhysio FiCoMo Specialist Centre is an act of goodwill and has no bond attached to it. However, we will require a power point case study presentation of how you have implemented the DNS concept in treating at least 1 of your patients. (This is to ensure that our sponsorship has at least benefited 1 person in your circle of influence).

We are giving priority to previous DNS participants of the Kuala Lumpur DNS Workshops before we select the others that submit their application form. There is a dateline for thispriority of up to the 1st of September for submission of your application form and a payment dateline of 15th September 2016.

The fee amount for you to pay after the given sponsorship is USD 675(early bird) for a 3 day DNS Women Health Skill workshop by Martina Jezkova. Please refer to the Registration form for the fees and payment method.

Kindly refer to the link below for the overview course objectives:

We hope you will take this opportunity to further develop your DNS understanding.

The venue of the course will be in Petaling Jaya.

Looking forward to hear from those of you interested.

Sincerely,
Ms Lim Yi Lin
